Despite just-average color volume, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 beats the 4K competition in every other performance metric. And it’s a relatively good value besides. If you have a fast PC and are looking for the ultimate gaming monitor, it’s hard to imagine a better display.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 is fantastic for gaming. It has a high 240Hz refresh rate, and it has variable refresh rate support to reduce screen tearing. It has low input lag for a responsive feel and motion looks smooth thanks to its quick response time. Sadly, there are firmware issues particularly with gaming, such as scanlines and flicker at low frame rates.

Monitors like the Odyssey Neo, out of my normal price range (this particular unit currently retails for just shy of $2000 Australian dollarydoos), are loaned to outlets like ours for review content. This is one of those rare instances where I’m genuinely sad to see a review unit head home. You know you’ve had something special in your home when you see the courier van pull up to collect the package and feel a pang in your heart telling you to wrench it from their hands before they can remove it from your life forever.

Its FALD-equipped VA panel offers brilliant HDR performance and accurate color for all-around great visual experiences.
