With all of that said, if Cooler Master were able to address this issue without introducing other problems, the GP27U would be an excellent monitor that's worth buying. The key selling point is the true HDR experience at a lower than typical price, and we were quite impressed with what it can do in that area. Right now there isn't any competition to Cooler Master's GP27U – if you want 4K true HDR around $800, this is the option.

The Cooler Master Tempest GP27U is an exceptional monitor in most regards. It’s brilliantly colorful and stunningly bright, and it even has contrast that can rival OLEDs in some scenarios thanks to its dense MiniLED backlights and local dimming.

The Cooler Master Tempest GP27U is the best 27″ 4K HDR gaming monitor available thanks to its 576-zone mini LED FALD, wide color gamut, fast response time and smooth VRR performance. Moreover, it has a fully ergonomic stand, rich connectivity options, plenty of features and a reasonable price.

It’s certainly a big upgrade and the Cooler Master Tempest GP27U is by far one of the best monitors I’ve ever had the pleasure of testing, and there have been many. Brilliant colours from a truly stunning panel, fast refresh rates, high resolutions, excellent brightness and contrast, and HDR performance that is actually on par with high-end TVs. This may be £799, but it lives up to its price tag. If this is just the start of the MiniLED future for PC gamers, bring it on!

The Tempest GP27U is an impressive 4K HDR gaming screen, with an attractive price point. It’s really great to see investment in proper HDR capable backlights at the moment, with more and more screens shunning poor edge-lit local dimming in favour of FALD and Mini LED options. This gives you a big boost to HDR performance in the desktop monitor space.
