It isn't a cheap headset, but the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro offers a number of premium features alongside excellent build quality for the price. For consumers with a love for competitive gaming, or those looking for a supreme level of audio quality for further immersion, the Razer BlackShark V2 is a worthwhile proposition.

One do not like about this headset is the microphone. It has that typical compressed gaming headset microphone sound, which is good enough for in-game communications and Zoom calls, but if you are recording yourself or doing any type of streaming you are definitely going to want to get a dedicated microphone. Also the metal wire pieces that hold the earcups in place do not seem like they are the strongest. If the headset has a weak point that is it as they could get bent pretty easily.

Razer has stepped things up with the BlackShark V2, and while it still may have some issues, I believe the direction of this headset is straight and true. Razer now has a very decent gaming headset in the $99 price range that I can recommend.

The Razer BlackShark V2 and BlackShark V2 X are made for gamers at all levels. The BlackShark V2 is made to be the “definitive esports gaming headset” while the “X” version is meant to deliver JUST the essentials for a significantly lower price. If for no other reason than these headphones are exceedingly comfortable to wear for long periods of time, I recommend the BlackShark V2 for all gamers right out the gate.

The high-end performance of the Razer’s TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers provided an exceptional listening and gaming experience. Between the lighter frame and memory foam ear cushions, I was able to game for hours with ease. If you are in the market for a new headset that won’t break the bank, the Blackshark V2 is a great choice.

Overall, for $99 I think the audio quality has met my expectations of what I was expecting for a brand new 2020 redesigned gaming headset from Razer. However, I am completely blown away by the BlackShark V2 X, this is the budget headset to beat in 2020, maybe even 2021 we will see.

Hands on: The main V2 headset delivers a crisp sound that’s enjoyable for music and games alike. Adding to that, in the games that I tested using the spatial audio, like No Man’s Sky and Red Dead Redemption 2, it definitely makes a difference versus listening with the standard audio profile. The quality of the spatial audio and audio performance in general isn’t anything I haven’t heard before, but it’s certainly nice to have in a $99.99 package.
